Situated in the heart of Sherman Oaks, Bill's Burgers stands as a cherished gem for aficionados of classic American hamburger fare. This humble yet beloved hamburger restaurant serves up a menu brimming with hearty, crave-worthy options that celebrate the art of the burger in its purest form. Whether you're eyeing the iconic Double Cheeseburger with Chips or daring enough to try the Quadruple Cheeseburger with Bacon, Bill’s Burgers delivers rich, satisfying flavors that linger long after your last bite.
The dining experience here is refreshingly honest and straightforward—just as you’d expect from a traditional burger joint where passion meets quality. Patrons rave about the perfectly grilled patties, which feature a beautifully seared crust that locks in juicy tenderness. The Cheese Burger with Fried Egg and the Bacon Double Cheeseburger with Egg and Everything are standout choices that elevate the classic burger to indulgent new heights, combining smoky bacon, creamy cheese, and velvety fried eggs for a symphony of flavors and textures that is absolutely mouthwatering.
Beyond the burgers, Bill’s Burgers also shines with its carefully curated sides and extras. The lightly salted, crispy Fries Only Chips provide a satisfying crunch, complementing the savory main dishes without overpowering them. For those looking to explore a bit more, the Chili Dog and traditional Hot Dog options deliver nostalgia wrapped in gourmet simplicity. The addition of humble sides like chips, cheese slices, and even a simple cup of ice illustrate Bill’s attention to detail and customer satisfaction, no matter how small the order.
What truly sets Bill's Burgers apart is the thoughtful craftsmanship behind every menu item and the unmistakable freshness of the ingredients. Customers consistently praise the way each burger embodies that perfect balance of smoky, meaty richness offset by tangy pickles and buttery buns generously spread with mayo. As reviewer Gavin “GJM_reviews” Meichelbock highlights, the “patty has a great sear,” and the “butteriness” from the mayo on both buns creates an undeniable crave factor that keeps people coming back again and again.
The atmosphere here complements the food perfectly — a down-to-earth, no-frills setting where the focus remains squarely on quality and flavor. Regulars appreciate that the wait time is a small price to pay for a burger made fresh to order, elevating Bill’s from a mere meal to an experience. It’s a neighborhood institution where hardworking staff greet each guest with warmth and genuine care, as noted by James Corey in his glowing review.
For anyone serious about burgers and willing to embrace the authentic spirit of a classic American burger joint, Bill’s Burgers is more than just a stop along the way — it’s a destination. As customer Harold so aptly puts it, “If you're craving a nofrills, delicious burger, this is the place to go.” And indeed, it is a spot where simplicity meets excellence in every bite, making it one of Southern California's best-kept burger secrets.
Note: Be sure to bring cash and prepare for street parking, but rest assured that the trade-offs are well worth it for a taste experience that lingers long after your last savory mouthful.
If you're craving a no-frills, delicious burger, this is the place to go. The burgers are simple, flavorful, and exactly what you expect from a classic American joint. I ordered the cheeseburger with all the fixings, and it was perfect. The flavors came together so well, and the freshness of the ingredients really stood out.
Look.. there’s meh, good, damn good, and just wow. Bills is in the middle between damn good and just wow. The food is just absolutely amazing. The burgers have this flavor you can’t find anywhere else. Yes you have to wait a bit because the burgers are made from scratch, but it makes it that much better. Easily one of the best burgers in Southern California
It’s what you want from a burger. Patty has a great sear, the pickles are delicious and the mayo on both buns gives the burgers a butteriness. It’s a valley institution for a reason and definitely worth the drive if you haven’t tried it before.
It’s what you want in a true American cheeseburger: simple, classic and well executed. Skip In & Out and give Bills Burger a try. You won’t regret it. ***Bring Cash
Simply delicious. Much love goes into these burgers, indeed. Be prepared to wait a minute for your food, pay cash, and park on the street (the parking lot belongs to another business)... But WELL WORTH IT. The owner is hard-working and always friendly. I think the secret is in the bread, but can't quite narrow it down to one thing. One of the best burger-stand burgers you'll ever experience.
2x Double Cheeseburger / 5⭐! Bill's Hamburgers in Van Nuys has been open since 1965 on a quiet, industrial-leaning part of Oxnard where they serve American classics, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, breakfast items and chili. It's a cash-only business so make sure you bring some cash with you. Bill's is one of those kinds of local spots where the 'ones in the know' will rave about and for good reason. They have a decent sized menu but I had heard many times over the years that their burgers are the way to go. While I was waiting for my order, I heard regulars ordering other items so it is safe to assume there is more to love than their hamburgers. I'd like to go back and try their breakfast sandwiches. The burgers I had were delicious. There is an art in perfecting a menu and Bill's has achieved just such a perfection with his sixty years in business! The burgers were very well cooked, well seasoned, had nice crispy edges, and were extremely tasty. The prices are still quite affordable. The service was quick and efficient for my visit. I would recommend you find street parking. The burger shack has a large parking lot next door but there are multiple signs warning Bill's guests from using the parking. I also loved how cozy and personal the setting felt. While they don't have seating, they do have some bar counters outside. I took my burgers to my car. I loved the ramshackle shack look of their restaurant and the no-frills, effortlessly tasty food on their menu. I recognize that Bill is set to retire or maybe he already has. But his legacy and his classic American menu will live on as long as there are people who care about quality food at good prices. They are worth the visit!
I must say that I have been dying to try Bills Burgers. Their hamburgers are legendary in the valley and the burger did not disappoint. And while there was a 45 minute wait. The burger was worth it. It was cooked to a perfect temp. The flavors were incredible. It is so clear to me why for the past 60 years, there is always a line. And, why they are likely to run out before the customers stop coming.
